Plunge into the Universe - San Pedro de Atacama - Chile
Night fell on the Atacama Desert. A wonderful Milky Way illuminates the sky, from the galactic centre on the left, in the constellation of Sagittarius, to the Carina Nebula on the right of the Southern Cross. Jupiter competes in brightness on the left with the globular cluster of the Centaur, at the top of the Galaxy. Below, the large and small Magellanic cloud are clearly visible. On the photographer's right, the intense beam of light, very sharp in this pure sky, materializes the dust of the solar system illuminated by the Sun: it is the zodiacal light. Note the low light pollution of San Pedro on the left of the image.
