Clouds of Magellan on the Fournaise - Reunion Island

Clouds of Magellan above the Piton de la Fournaise with the Milky Way. The Great Cloud of Magellan has just begun to show on the horizon above the Dolomieu crater of the Piton de la Fournaise, joining its smaller companion in the austral sky. The Milky Way deploys its procession of stars and nebulae, from the Southern Cross on the horizon to Sagittarius. This image was taken on 2016 August 29, three days before the annual solar eclipse.
