2016 - France - Reunion Island - Multiple exposure of the annular eclipse of the sun
Multiple exposure sequences composite across the sky over the Île de la Réunion. August 31, 2016, the night before the eclipse, I climbed to the summit of Maïdo (an altitude of 2200 m) to scout out the spot that, I thought, would provide a magnificent view the next day. Once I emerged from the blanket of clouds that hovers between the altitudes of 1400 and 1800 meters, I was greeted by an absolutely clear sky, and the sunset allowed me to take photos in the same conditions that would be present during the eclipse. Thursday, September 1. My friends and I decided that we would view the eclipse from Maïdo. Unfortunately, the blanket of clouds was higher than we had expected, and only a few patches of blue sky were visible. At the summit, I ran into my friend Guillaume Cannat, and asked him to join us to observe the eclipse from a house on the edge of the sea in Boucan Canot. Despite several moments of thin cloud coverage, the eclipse was visible from beginning to end. The multiple exposure sequences seen in the photo is the result of a composition of images taken with a solar filter every five minutes during the eclipse and a photo of the sunset taken the night before from Maïdo.
