Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, is located in the constellation of the Great Dog. It is clearly visible in the center of the image, in the Omani desert of the Wahiba Sands. White in color, it is located only 8.6 al from Earth, while its neighbor Canopus visible on the horizon is much further away (310 al). This giant star is 15000 times brighter than the Sun. These two stars of the sky are accompanied by the constellation Orion in the upper right of the picture, whose red supergiant Betelgeuse is perfectly recognizable by its orange glow.
