The climb to the top of the Piton des Neiges from Cilaos provided a magnificent show, seen from the the rim that encircles the cirque, 1100 meters above the city. Every day there, clouds invade the basin, dissipating during the night. After immortalizing the Milky Way above the cirque, I took a forty-minute shot of the movement of the Earth while the last clouds dispersed, allowing a view of the lights of Cilaos. The lights of St. Pierre on the edge of the sea can also be seen on the horizon. Like a magnet, the south celestial pole seems to draw us in to its vortex.
