Venus and the stromatolites - Hamelin Pool - Australia

Hamelin Pool is home to the most diverse and abundant examples of stromatolites in the world. Also referred to as ‘living fossils’, stromatolites are living representatives of life over 3500 million years ago when there was no other complex life on Earth.
Taken at astronomical twilight, the photo shows the planet Venus reflected in the calm water where the stromatolites are located. It is surmounted by Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, as well as the constellation Orion and the Milky Way.
