2023 - Australia - Exmouth - Total Solar Eclipse
This eclipse was the first hybrid that I observed on April 20, 2023, a very rare type of eclipse. Because of the rotundity of the Earth and depending on where it was observed, the eclipse was either annular (the Moon not covering the Sun entirely) or total. After its passage in the Indian Ocean, the trajectory of the eclipse touched the land on the Exmouth Peninsula in Western Australia. It was then total but short (58 seconds on my observation place).
The diameter of the Moon being almost identical to the Sun and the sky being crystal clear, the show was really exceptional. Huge protuberances were visible, and the solar corona of a sharpness never seen before.
Because of the shortness of the eclipse, the darkness was less pronounced with a deep blue sky. A great moment of astronomical emotion!
Compilation of 6 images at different exposure times (from 1/2000s to 1/2s).
